A tailored course for the adolescent mind.

Adolescence can be a challenging time with many hormonal and developmental changes that will influence your dog's behaviour for the better or worse.

But fear not, we are here to help you and ensure you have confidence to continue with your dog’s education and can learn how to bring the very best out of your teenage dog. 

In this program we focus on common problems with 'teenage' dogs, how to work through their levels of frustration and lack of impulse control, how to ensure you are building a communicative relationship based on mutual benefit and how to ensure they are safe and attentive still. 

We believe that our tried and tested training sessions can teach you and your dog skills that will prepare them for a life of fun and adventure together.

What do we do differently and why?

Our unique training approach allows your dog's obedience to improve and thrive while the levels of distractions gradually increase throughout the weeks under the support and guidance of our head behaviourist and dog trainer.

Application of Learnt Skills

Building even further on real life scenario training, we aim to put you and your dog into situations where the skills they learn are used practically and effectively. This teaches you how to apply your learning, in a safe and controlled environment.

Relationship Development

Teenage dogs are striving for independence. Our course helps solidify the relationship you have with your dog, aiming to show your dog the benefits of working as a team, all the while making it a lot easier fo you to trust your dog in a variety of situations.

Behaviour Understanding

It can seem overwhelming having a dog that suddenly seems harder to train than when they were small puppies. Our course aims to help you realise why your dog is acting they way they are, and give you the skills you need to appropriately manage them in their changing minds and bodies.

Course Overview

You must have completed our School Pups Program in order to attend Top Teens so you and your dog have an awareness of our key training systems.

Suitable for all sociable dogs over 6 months of age, you will have some basic obedience understanding already but a 100% response is not necessary.

  • For only $300/dog you’ll get 6 x 1hr classes, plus:

    ✓ FREE MEMBERSHIP TO PRIME PUPS social group page specifically for Teen Dogs for any Q&A's where you can get ongoing advice and support from the page community and trainers.

    ✓ FREE SOCIAL DOG WALKS with other members of the Prime Pups and Top Teens Programs where the puppies and alumni dogs from all programs get to meet, play and interact with each other in a positive way.​

    Since you've already graduated our School Pups Program, you also have exclusive access to our Alumni-only Owner Coaching sessions!

  • • Understanding the teenage mind that's under construction (common adolescent behaviours)

    • Building engagement through movement (dog tricks for focus)

    • How to deal with triggers and distractions and change a dogs emotional response

    • Duration training (how to make your dog hold a position)

    • Advanced loose lead training (lead handling and frustration prevention)

    • Stop and stay training (how to teach your dog an emergency stop on cue)

    • Emergency turns on cue for safety

    • Improving your recall (how to create an instant recall)

    • Integrating your training to real life scenarios.

  • You will need a standard length lead and a minimum 8m long line for this course. Additionally, bring along:

    • Toys that your dog loves to play with
    • A big mix of smelly treats in an easily accessible pouch or pocket
    • Poo Bags
    • Water and water bowl for your dog

  • A comprehensive and progressive 6 week program advancing you and your dogs obedience skills. Relevant safety training for the real world as teenage dogs can be thrill seekers or become anxious and easily overwhelmed.

    ​Our Top Teens classes last for 1 hour. This allows time for each participant to learn the concepts and practise with the guidance of the head trainer. There is also time for short Q&A's as there are always additional issues that may arise at home during this period of development.

  • Our classes are held in public reserves and various locations in the Tauranga area.

All family are welcome to attend, including children that we can involve in the training under parent supervision.
